Thiruvaymure Vaimoornathar Temple – Navagraha Dosha Nivarthi Sacred Place
Thiruvaimoor Vaimoornathar Temple, which bestows blessings upon Navagraha Dosha, Thirumana Dosha, and fear of death, grants success in education.
Location
The Thiruvaymure Vaimoornathar Temple is located near Thirukkuvalai in Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu, India.
Thevaram Hymn Glory
This temple is the 124th shrine among the Thevaram Paadal Petra Sthalams on the southern bank of River Cauvery. It was praised in the hymns of Thirugnana Sambandar and Thirunavukkarasar (Appar).
Special Features
- On 12th and 13th days of the Tamil month Panguni, sunlight falls directly on the main deity and goddess.
- The Lord is a self-manifested (Swayambhu) lingam.
- The Navagrahas (nine planets) are placed in a straight line here.
- This is the third of the Saptha Vidanga Sthalams – the shrine of Lord Thyagaraja is also present here.
- Earlier there were eight Bhairavar shrines here like in Kashi (now only four remain).
- The “Vittanga Lingam” here is very small – devotees believe that worshipping it removes fear of untimely death.
Temple History
Lord Brahma, Sun God (Surya), and Vanmeega Nathar worshipped the deity here. Indra’s son Jayanthan was relieved from a curse with the blessings of Bhairavar. It is believed that on Thriyambaka Ashtami, Lord Shiva burnt the three cities (Tripura Samharam) here Thirunellikaval Temple
